Begin with three boundaries
Define the required process outcome, the preparation system’s practical limits and the delivery requirement. A technically promising product can fail commercially if it requires unplanned equipment changes, gives inconsistent solution or cannot be received in a useful package.
Send normal and difficult operating conditions. Ask for a small sample set with identified differences and a plan for evaluating those differences.
Separate mass, concentration and price
Record whether each dose is stated as active polymer or as-supplied material. Use active fraction when normalizing commercial mass; use density when converting liquid volume. Include preparation water, operator time and handling requirements where they affect the decision.
Compare cake transport, capture, throughput and cleaning alongside product consumption. A lower chemical invoice may be offset by more wet sludge or lost solids. The dose-per-dry-tonne method prevents common unit errors.
Require a clear handover to purchasing
Name the approved code, quantity, packaging, destination, documents and delivery timing. Record the accepted preparation method and process range in the purchase file. Agree what triggers requalification if the product or application changes.
